The Beach, a Pinhole and a Film Camera.

Fishing on the Jhetty

Today's adventure was all about the beach, film, and the pinhole camera.

It was the weekend, so my daughter and I headed out for a walk along the beach to see what we could find. I decided to leave my Nikon Z6ii at home today felt like a good day to keep things simple. Plus, it was a nice chance to get my daughter involved and to show her how to slow down and really look at things, not just rush through.

The beach was busy, with lots of people around, which definitely made me feel a bit anxious. But we kept going. I took a bunch of pinhole shots, trying to stay patient with the slow process.

People watching on a relatively busy day in Inverloch. film developed to be very grainy. kind of looks like it was taken 10 years ago.

Shooting with a pinhole camera is a completely different experience—it really forces you to slow down and think about each shot. Sometimes I love that, but honestly, sometimes it feels like it slows me down too much and I start to get a bit bored. It’s a real shift compared to shooting with my regular cameras.

When we got home, I developed the images and realised I'd overexposed most of the images. It was a bit disappointing, but it’s all part of learning how to work with such a different way of shooting. Next time, I think I’ll be a bit more careful with how long I leave the pinhole open, especially on such a bright day.

Even with the mistakes, it felt good to get out there and just enjoy the process especially being able to share it with my daughter.

I wouldn’t say today was overly productive, it wasn’t as relaxing as the other walks. and I wasn’t really as into it as I wanted to be. I think I have taken on a bit too much and I need to scale it back.

These images are all over exposed. There’s a light leak in the first image, from some careless paper treatment on my behalf. The second image has movement from the wind and there’s chemical leaks from not developing the paper properly.
